My Dad provided me with everything you need in life
Shelter, food, and a kiss goodnight.
He guided me with loving direction
Giving me no reason to hope for perfection

He taught me all the important things
Riding, raking and fishing
I sat beside him on Sunday mornings
Watching his eyes for the perfect warning

I saw the mist in his eyes with each milestone I crossed
From schooling and athletics to loves that were lost
I prayed I would provide and guide my child
With strength like my father and loving pride

Grandpa's Child

When I was but a child
I sat on my Grandpa's knee.
I looked into his knowing eyes
And said, "Explain to me?"

Tell me why the grass is green,
And where do babies grow?
Why do the fish just bite your hook?
And how come you know how to sew?

How did you make those stars to shine,
And grow that silver in you hair?
Where you born with all those wrinkles?
Can you make a coin appear?

He looked at me and lovingly smiled, and
Patiently answered my pleas.
He said God did all these things my child, but
He isn't quite through with me.

He gave me this beautiful grandchild
To see with brand new eyes,
That life is full of blessings,
Wonder and surprise!

"Daddy's Hands"

I would take Daddy's hand at times
When I would be lonely or scared.
His hand alone would suppress my fears
And bring a momentary smile to my lips.

When I was older his gentle hands
Would place a band-aid on a skinned knee.
I can still hear him say, "You'll be good
As new," with love and affection.

With increasing time Daddy's hands
Played different roles in my life.
Daddy's hand hesitantly gave me away
When I accepted your hand as a wife.

Although Daddy's hand is unreachable
He taught me about a Father's love.
Those big strong hands are now rejoicing
As they praise God in His mansion above.
I'll always be a Daddy's girl.
